What You’ll Do

As an Instructional Designer for Big Think Edge, you will partner with the Heads of Learning, Partner Services, and Sales to design, develop, and assess learning content for corporate partners and universities across a range of modalities (from digital courses to virtual discussion programs to e-learning campaigns).

Applying adult learning principles and education technology, you will synthesize and reinforce video lessons from subject matter experts across our Top 21 Skills for Personal and Organizational Development in the 21st Century. You will write, edit, and eventually manage content development at all stages of the development lifecycle.

Your role will include, but not be limited to, the following areas of responsibility in descending order of importance:

  1. Instructional Design:
  • Write new courses including course outlines, learning objectives, self-assessments, activities, and discussion prompts

  • Attend monthly pitch meetings and pitch at least 1 course/month within your comfort zone as well as 1 "stretch" pitch/quarter that challenges you to think beyond your comfort zone

  • On a rolling basis, author and/or copy edit baseline learning supporting material for new Edge video lessons, including lesson summaries, transcripts, personal learner guides, and group discussion guides

  1. Partner Services and Sales Support:
  • Connect with the Partnerships department to be briefed on current client relationships; prepare and maintain learning plan summaries to be included in a centralized tracking repository

  • Own learning partner portfolio: Lead the process of needs assessment and scoping for client's vision, objectives, and requirements

  • Respond to partner and sales requests as assigned, including learning program pitches, content curations, and general program support

  1. LMS Administration: 
  • As lead LMS administrator, load all content assets onto the Edge platform and prepare the monthly catalog summary for distribution to our Publishing and Sales departments
  1. New Project Development - Content and Teams:
  • Work closely with the Head of Learning and Content Development Team to conceive, develop, and test a new production pipeline for Big Think Edge courses

  • Based on your experience, create a talent development process for building out an instructional design team that will serve the product's next period of growth

  • Recruit, onboard, and supervise a growing team of instructional designers and content specialists as needed

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor's Degree in Adult Learning, Instructional Design, Educational Technology or a related field; Master's Degree preferred

  • 5+ years of experience working in instructional content development in a technology-enabled environment for corporate or consulting organizations and/or individual consumers and universities

  • Experience working within a full cycle of instructional design, from needs assessment and project scoping to design and delivery of learning materials across various modalities

  • Critical reasoning and problem-solving skills, including the ability to synthesize and translate challenging material into digestible learning interventions for digital learners

  • A fierce eye for detail, with exceptional writing and design skills, as well as strong editing prowess

  • A passion for customer service, including a willingness to identify and escalate issues on behalf of our clients

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, project-driven organization

  • A desire to evolve your position and become a critical thinking partner serving on an ambitious, mission-driven team
