Move the World.

Leslie Dewan and her team at Transatomic believe they’ve designed a power plant unlike any that’s ever existed: environmentally friendly, safe, and capable of supplying energy at an incredible scale. To actually build it, Dewan will need to convince a cautious world that it’s ready for Transatomic.

That’s because Transatomic is a nuclear power company, and their design is for a nuclear power plant. More specifically, a molten salt reactor. On paper, these reactors are safe and super powerful. Building one should be simple, but it’s not. The energy sector privileges cheap, fast power. Historically, nuclear has been neither of those things.

To build their plant, Transatomic will need to convince the world to think differently about nuclear.

In a new Freethink original series, Michael O'Shea goes around the world to introduce us to the scientists who are working hard to ensure that we can feed our future world.

There are currently over 7 billion human beings alive on Earth --- and in 2050 the world's population will rise by almost 2 billion. That's a lot more mouths to feed considering that roughly 11 percent of the world goes hungry today.
