Clayton Maute is one of the first robotic equipment operators in the U.S., working with autonomous heavy machinery in the construction industry.

The technology, developed by Built Robotics, enables machinery to work safely and efficiently within a designated “geofence.” Robots perform tasks, such as digging perfectly straight trenches, while human operators supervise and handle other responsibilities.

As the technology evolves, it’s expected to make construction jobs safer, mitigate labor shortages, and increase pay for operators with robotic equipment skills. Maute’s story showcases the fusion of AI and human labor, highlighting that despite fears, robotics can transform industries to become safer and more efficient.
